IWCE, Las Vegas – March 28, 2007 – Tyco Electronics’ M/A-COM business, a worldwide leader of critical radio communications systems, today introduced the M/ACOM P5400 platform of software defined portable radios. They are intended for users in need of small, durable, competitively priced P25 radios capable of P25 conventional or P25 trunking in a wide-area network.
“Today, the need for dependable and consistent portable radio communications extends beyond that of our local public safety agencies, with Federal, state and local first responders who need to establish and maintain radio communications during emergency response efforts,” said Greg Farmer, product manager, Tyco Electronics M/A-COM. “To meet these requirements we have developed the P5400 line of radios, which can instantly connect a wide number critical response radio users with the push of a button. Based on the P25 standard, the P5400 is among the most versatile and competitively priced portable radio lines on the market today and we are confident that its complete suite of features will augment the ability of its users to protect and serve their constituencies.”
The M/A-COM P5400 line supports multiple radio operating modes, including P25 digital trunked and P25 conventional analog modes, Enhanced Digital Access Communications System (EDACS) trunked mode and ProVoice trunked mode,. The software-based radios feature a multi-line alphanumeric liquid crystal display and rotary
On-Off-Volume and channel controls and can store up to a maximum of 255 trunked talkgroups and up to 512 conventional channels.
