LOWELL, Mass. - September 17, 2007 - Tyco Electronics announced that its M/A-COM business, a worldwide leader of critical radio communications systems, has introduced the VDOC (Voice and Data on Control) trunked site to extend the reach of M/A-COM's P25IP radio communications network systems. The VDOC trunked site will enable cost effective P25 trunked digital radio communications in low population areas that do not offer high capacity transmission sites. The VDOC trunked site requires only a single frequency pair and can operate as a stand-alone site or as part of a larger P25IP communications network.
Most public safety communications systems are capable of providing the requisite RF signal strength in highly populated metropolitan areas, but are not able to deliver to first responders reliable coverage for their radio communications in less dense rural areas. Steve Frackleton, director, Marketing, Tyco Electronics' M/A-COM explains, "The M/A-COM VDOC offering provides affordable, effective P25 communications in remote locations that traditionally may not have enough radio traffic to justify the costs related to extending the system to three or more channels."
A VDOC site utilizes M/A-COM's MASTR III base station and P25 trunking software, allowing a single base station to act as both a control channel and a working channel. This enables customers to save valuable RF frequencies, while improving spectrum efficiency in low density applications by utilizing a single channel for control, voice and data. VDOC sites are offered in the VHF, UHF and 800 MHz frequency bands. The P25 VDOC trunked site was demonstrated for the first time at Tyco Electronics' M/A-COM booth during the 2007 APCO International Conference & Expo at the Baltimore Convention Center, August 5-9, 2007.
Tyco Electronics' M/A-COM business is a leading supplier of critical communications systems and equipment for public safety, utility, federal and select commercial markets.
